Four out of seven operation theatres of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) have been closed for the purpose of renovations causing a severe problem for the hapless patients who are in queue for their bypass surgical procedures, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.

According to sources, the hospital conducts more than a dozen coronary artery bypass surgery daily. But the ill-advised decision taken by the administration to close down four operation theatres simultaneously forced the cardiac surgeons to perform poorly. Only three bypass operations could be done on Tuesday.

The attendants of the admitted patients said the operation theatres could be renovated one by one. It would keep the smooth flow of surgical procedures.   

The administration said the theatres were closed at the direction of the PIC Board of Management.
