Public warned as Tarbela Dam spillways open

The authorities have opened the spillways of Tarbela Dam in order to discharge the heavy flood system of hundreds of thousands cusecs of water that entered the reservoir after heavy rains and melting of mountain snow, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has directed people specially the tourists not to move closer to the water coming out of the spillways of the Tarbela Dam.

The PDMA officials urged the people to stay away from the fast-moving water for at least five to six hours.

The water flow from Tarbela Down to Indus downstream will remain about 250,000 cusecs for at least six hours, the PDM officials said.
