A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane impounded by the authorities in Malaysia is ready to fly back to the country after the court suspended its earlier decision to stop the aircraft, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
PIA’s Boeing 777 was stopped after a court in Kuala Lumpur issued a stay order.
A legal team of the PIA fought the case in the court for three days and were succeeded in persuading the court to suspend its order.
After getting permission for take-off, the PIA plane will fly back to Islamabad via flight PK-6893.
On May 30 last, the PIA plane was impounded by Malaysian authorities at Kuala Lumpur International Airport over non-payment of heavy dues. PIA’s Boeing 777 with BMH registration number had been stopped by the Malaysian authorities for the second time.
This time the Malaysians held the plane after getting an order from a local court for recovery of $4 million dues.
The PIA had acquired the plane on lease from a Malaysian company some time back. The company obtained a court order after non-payment of the lease amount.
The same exercise had happened some time back but the plane was allowed to leave after assurances for payment were extended through diplomatic channels.
While reacting to the development in Malaysia, a PIA spokesperson told media that the Boeing 777 aircraft was owned by the PIA, adding that the engine leasing company submitted false facts and figures to get stay order. the spokesperson said the PIA had cleared all the dues in this regard.
The spokesperson further said that the national carrier had approached the Malaysian court to sort out the matter.
