The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) Wednesday approved a Rs1.9 per unit increase in power tariff for the state-owned electricity distribution companies (DISCOs), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The Nepra approved the raise in power tariff during the hearing of a plea of the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) regarding monthly fuel cost adjustment for May.

The power consumers will have to bear an additional burden of Rs23 billion for a month.

The Nepra will later issue a detailed decision on the CPPA’s plea.

The CPPA had demanded a Rs2.5 per unit increase in power tariff for DISCOs.
