Supreme Court caseload rises to 54,965

Marked increase in the number of cases pending in the Supreme Court (SC) has been noticed as their number now stands at 54,965, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

As per the SC’s report on pending cases that covers the period until June 30, 2023, the number of civil petitions pending in the apex court stands at 29,774, while in the case of civil appeals, the number stands at 9,804.

The report discloses that 8,991 criminal petitions are pending in the SC, while there are 1, 483 review petitions presently awaiting decision. 

Similarly, there are 1,084 criminal appeals and 161 constitutional petitions that are pending in the apex court, tells the report.

Likewise, decisions in 25 suo motu notices and one reference are awaited.
