Two seats of the Supreme Court judges are still lying vacant because the Judicial Commission of Pakistan’s meeting could not be convened for the last 10 months owing to persistent differences among its members, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

Fifteen judges have been working since the last 10 months and two seats of judges are vacant in the Supreme Court.

According to a report issued by the apex court, the number of pending cases has increased to over 52,000.

Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Umar Ata Bandial will retire on September 16 this year.

Justice Qazi Faez Isa, a member of the Judicial Commission, has written several letters requesting to convene the JCP meeting. He recommended the names of Sindh High Court Chief Justice, Justice Ahmed Ali Sheikh and Peshawar High Court Chief Justice, Justice Musarrat Hilali.

No appointment was made after the retirement of Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah on July 13, 2022, and August 13, 2022, respectively.

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) is a body which appoints the Supreme Court and High Court Judges in Pakistan. The Chief Justice of Pakistan is the chairman of the JCP.
