The widow pensioners of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) have been receiving Rs2,000 monthly pension, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

It was revealed in a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Aviation that there are 5,000 widow pensioners among the total 15,000 pensioners of the PIA.

“The PIA has been giving only Rs2,000 as monthly pension to the widow pensioners,” Senator Afnanullah said.

“The PIA does not deduct the pension money from employees’ salaries. The PIA does not have separate money for pensions,” the PIA chief executive officer (CEO) told the Senate committee.

“The pensions have not been increased since 2008,” he added.

The Senate committee decided to recommend Rs5,000 as the minimum pension in the next board meeting.
