Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority (IHRA) has sealed Shafi Hospital on Friday due to staff negligence after legs of a newborn baby burnt, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to details, IHRA team had visited Shafi Hospital located at Lahtrar Road of Islamabad yesterday and immediately put a ban on carrying out operations there after the newborn girl’s burning incident.
The IHRA officials rejected the story put up by the hospital staff that an electric bulb “exploded” in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) sending the temperature soaring which caused injuries to the baby. As a result, the child’s dress caught fire and her legs got burnt.
The investigators, however, concluded that the burns were caused due to increasing the temperature of the incubator pointing a finger at the hospital staff.
The patients admitted in the banned hospital were now transferred to other hospitals for treatment.
The IHRA also sought a detailed report within two days from the hospital which was not registered with the Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority.
During the inspection of the hospital, several other violations of the relevant laws were also found.
Currently, the child is receiving treatment at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), said a representative from the hospital’s emergency department.
The newborn babygirl is under the care of the Burn Care Centre.
