Pakistan's Information Technology (IT) Ministry has embarked on an ambitious journey towards the launch of 5G technology, bolstering the nation's tech sector growth.

Under the visionary leadership of IT Minister Syed Aminul Haq, significant strides are being made to solidify Pakistan's position on the global tech map.

In a recent directive, the IT Ministry has empowered the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to enlist the services of seasoned consultants. Their primary task is to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study of the impending 5G rollout. Minister Aminul Haq affirmed that this strategic move reflects the government's commitment to ensure a seamless transition to this transformative technology.

Speaking on the matter, Minister Aminul Haq revealed that a dedicated committee has been established to oversee the spectrum auction for 5G frequencies. These frequencies will pave the way for enhanced connectivity, faster data speeds, and revolutionary innovations. The minister further disclosed that the caretaker government holds the authority to issue policy directives to facilitate the study, underscoring the administration's determination to foster a conducive environment for technological progress.

The IT Ministry's efforts extend beyond 5G, as they've diligently crafted a comprehensive policy to boost mobile phone manufacturing. In a landmark achievement, global tech giants Samsung and Nokia have already established manufacturing plants within Pakistan, a testament to the nation's growing appeal as a tech manufacturing hub. Minister Aminul Haq unveiled a formidable aspiration – to entice Apple to invest in Pakistan, solidifying the country's status as a technology-driven nation.

The Minister shared remarkable insights into the evolution of Pakistan's IT exports. Within a span of three years, these exports surged from 1 billion to an impressive 2.6 billion dollars. After a subdued period from January to April, May and June marked a remarkable uptick in IT exports. In a stark contrast, other sectors experienced a decrease in exports during the same period, showcasing the resilience and dynamism of the IT industry.

The IT Ministry has been at the forefront of spearheading projects to bridge the digital divide. A remarkable 83 projects under the Universal Service Fund have been launched, aimed at promoting digital inclusivity across Pakistan. Minister Aminul Haq has set a stringent deadline for the completion of these projects by December 31, underscoring the government's unwavering commitment to equitable access to technology.

Addressing the investment landscape, Minister Aminul Haq emphasized that the government's role should be that of a facilitator, rather than a financier, advocating for a thriving IT sector. While refraining from delving into details regarding the e-Safety Bill, Minister Aminul Haq affirmed that the formulation of regulations for social media platforms is in its final stages. He reiterated the Ministry's commitment to engaging all stakeholders in a consultative process, ensuring that Pakistan's digital landscape remains secure, inclusive, and forward-looking.

As the IT Ministry continues its relentless pursuit of progress, it is noteworthy that discussions concerning amendments to the PICA Act are within the purview of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, further highlighting the concerted and multifaceted efforts to propel Pakistan's technological evolution.
