Following the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the Punjab government has taken decisive action to launch an intelligence-based operation against miscreants across the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Saturday.

The Chief Minister's proactive approach aims to maintain law and order and ensure the safety and security of citizens.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has received explicit instructions to conduct intelligence-based operations as part of a broader effort to counter any potential threats during the holy month of Muharram.

The operation will include comprehensive search and sweep activities across Punjab, targeting areas of concern.

A total of 280 hotspots have been identified, which will be closely monitored to prevent any untoward incidents. The Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) have been entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining peace and security during the month of Muharram, a period of religious significance for the Muslim community.

In order to enhance community participation in ensuring peace, the activation of Peace Committees has been ordered. These committees will play a crucial role in promoting harmony and fostering a sense of security among the public.

The Chief Secretary, Zahid Akhtar Zaman, has directed all relevant institutions to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to maintain peace during Muharram. The Inspector General of Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, has emphasized that every possible effort will be made to establish public peace during this sacred month.

In addition to the security measures, the Chief Secretary has also instructed for the complete monitoring of water flow in the river Chenab and its tributaries. With the aim of dealing with possible floods, all necessary arrangements are being made to ensure the safety and well-being of the population. The implementation of the flood emergency plan falls under the administration's responsibility, with negligence being strictly discouraged.

During the monsoon season, the Chief Secretary has emphasized the importance of keeping all machinery and de-watering pumps fully operational to mitigate potential flooding risks.

A high-level meeting was convened to discuss these important matters, with the participation of key stakeholders including the Inspector General of Police, senior members of the Board of Revenue, intelligence agencies, CTD, Special Branch, Local Government Secretary, Divisional Commissioners, RPOs, DPOs, and Deputy Commissioners. The meeting was conducted through video link to ensure effective communication and coordination.
