Waris Mir’s death anniversary: Punjab CM Naqvi pays tribute to writer

Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi Sunday on the eve of Waris Mir’s death anniversary said that he set the goals for journalism over freedom of thought, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Waris Mir, the father of renowned journalist Hamid Mir, was not only a journalist but a very progressive writer and a great teacher as well. CM Punjab Naqvi said that Waris Mir left a very deep-rooted impression on journalists regarding the freedom of thought and speech. Speaking and spreading the truth was the heart and soul of Mir’s life. He struggled for freedom of speech and paved the path for the journalists after him so they would not have to bear with the troubles and the restrictions. The freedom of journalism is till date a handmaid of Waris Mir’s struggles, said CM Punjab Naqvi.

Waris Mir fought against oppression very bravely and stood his ground for basic human and democratic rights till his last breaths and proved that truthfulness and true journalism is indispensable even in dire times of oppression.

Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to the legendary writer and journalist Waris Mir and concluded it by saying that his unwavering commitment and his steadfast attitude towards justice, equality and freedom of thought will always be remembered and keep him alive in our hearts.
