A professor of Azad Jammu and Kashmir University was arrested over lewd and lascivious conduct, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

According to details, Professor Dr Ghazanfar Ali is the Head of the Department of Biotechnology in Azad Jammu and Kashmir University and is a resident of the Chontra area of Rawalpindi.

The professor was arrested while making lewd acts with a girl student on Wednesday. As a result of severe public backlash and outcry that followed, he was suspended and an inquiry was mandated by the university vice-chancellor.

Additionally, the public also demanded suspension and strict action against Vice-Chancellor Dr Kaleem Abbasi, the professor and the involved girl.

The police have kept Professor Dr Ghazanfar Ali and the girl in custody for legal action.

On the other hand, the university administration and other powerful and influential people are pressuring the police to release the accused.

Meanwhile, the public has also requested that an investigation inquiry committee should be formed to investigate the vice-chancellor in order to restore Kashmir University's damaged reputation and to prevent further harm to the university.

It was also learnt that the professor had been repeatedly caught involved in such obscene behaviour on the university premises but the matter was suppressed at the behest of the vice-chancellor and others so as not to bring disrepute to the university.
