Former federal finance minister Ishaq Dar and ex-law minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said Friday that the Supreme Court’s decision to annul the Review of Judgements and Orders Act 2023 would have no effect on the case of Nawaz Sharif, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Ishaq Dar said while talking informally to journalists in the Senate said that there was no worry with the annulment of the Supreme Court (Review of Judgements and Orders) Act 2023, adding the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) would decide its political and legal strategy in that regard.

“Legal experts will be consulted on this matter. Whatever decision is taken regarding the return of Nawaz Sharif, the party will take it with mutual consultation,” he said.

Ishaq Dar said that he had kept himself apart from the ongoing consultation process regarding the caretaker prime minister.

“The decision about the caretaker prime minister is to be taken by the prime minister and the opposition leader with mutual consultation,” he stated.

Earlier, Ishaq Dar held a meeting with Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani during which both leaders discussed the overall political situation of the country and matters related to the caretaker setup.

Former federal minister Ahsan Iqbal was also present in the meeting. A detailed discussion on the Supreme Court’s annulment of the Review of Judgements and Orders Act was also held during the meeting.

Meanwhile, former federal law minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said that the case of Nawaz Sharif would not be affected by the annulment of the Review of Orders and Judgments Act.

While talking to the media, Azam Nazeer Tarar said that the Constitution laid down the procedure for how the institutions should be run.

“The work of the court is to decide cases and provide justice to the people. The frequent interference of the court in the affairs of the Parliament is not good. It will make the institutions weaker,” he pointed out.

“It seems that an advantage has been taken of the absence of the Parliament. This law was an old demand of bar councils and bar associations,” he stated.

The PML-N leader said that the Supreme Court’s decision would not affect the case of Nawaz Sharif, adding that the Parliament had passed the law according to which the disqualification would be for five years under 184/3.

“After the amendment to the Election Act, the disqualification cannot be more than five years. Participating in politics is a fundamental right. After the legislation, every disqualified politician is now eligible to participate in politics after five years,” he asserted.

Azam Nazeer further said that a review petition could be filed against the decision of the Supreme Court, adding that there was a 20-day period for review against the court decision.

“The absence of the Parliament was taken advantage of by giving the decision at this time. It was ensured that Parliament could not reverse this decision,” he criticised.
