President Dr Arif Alvi has asked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) Raja Riaz to propose a Caretaker Prime Minister by August 12.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, President Alvi issued a letter to PM Shehbaz Sharif and Opposition Leader (OL) Raja Riaz for the appointment of the Caretaker Prime Minister as the NA has been dissolved on August 09.
In the letter, the President said, "Under proviso to Article 224 (1A) of the Constitution, the President appoints the caretaker Prime Minister in consultation with the PM and the Leader of the Opposition.
The letter said, "Under Article 224A of the Constitution, the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition in the outgoing National Assembly are required to propose name of a person for appointment of care-taker Prime Minister whithin three days of dissolution of National Assembly.
The President also said in the letter, "As provided in Article 224 (IA) of Constitution of Pakistan, the Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition in the outgoing National Assembly may propose a suitable person for appointment of care-taker Prime Minister not later than 12th August, 2023 (before 2400 hrs)."
