PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui has questioned Supreme Court’s senior judge Justice Mansoor Ali Shah’s remarks that the government was bound to enforce apex court’s decisions, reported 24News.
Senator Siddiqui’s inquiry follows Justice Shah’s yesterday’s assertion that the implementation of Supreme Court decisions is a mandatory constitutional obligation.
Taking to the social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter), PML-N leader agreed with Justice Shah's view that court decisions must be implemented to avoid constitutional imbalance. However, he sought clarification whether it was not a mandatory for the courts to announce decisions as per the constitution and law.
Siddiqui questioned whether the judiciary has the authority to interpret or alter constitutional provisions in a way that deviates from the explicit articles of the constitution.
He said such actions by the judiciary could potentially disrupt the constitutional equilibrium.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, addressing a seminar the previous day, had emphasized that the implementation of court decisions is integral to maintain the constitutional integrity. He stressed that no entity has the authority to halt the enforcement of Supreme Court’s judgments.
