President Dr Arif Alvi Saturday has approved a 180-day remission in the sentences of prisoners on the occasion of Independence Day, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The remission will be applied to the inmates serving life imprisonment and the ones who have already served one-third of the sentence.

It will be applicable to men above 65 and women above 60. Persons under the age of 18 who have served one-third of their sentence will also be eligible.

The inmates involved in murder, espionage, anti-state activities, adultery, theft, robbery, kidnapping and terrorism.
