Authorities on high alert as cyclone “Biparjoy” moves near Sindh: Murad Ali  Shah

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that the administration has been put on high alert to deal with Cyclone 'Biparjoy' as saving human lives is the top priority of the government.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the chief minister while presiding over a high-level meeting held in connection with the cyclonic storm on Monday urged citizens to stay away from shorelines as the cyclone is heading toward the coastal areas of Pakistan and India and will intensify during the next 24 hours.

The CM said the evacuation of people from coastal areas will be ensured in the operation. “District Sujawal has more danger, therefore, evacuation of the 60 thousand people from three places of the district has been started. Murad said.  

 Murad Ali Shah said that 14,000 people will be shifted from Keti Bandar to safe places. “The work of removing the billboard has started and efforts will be made to remove the billboard 100 percent. He said dozens of fishermen's boats were brought back.

“The Storm surge is expected at Keti Bander. The Arabian Sea conditions may get very rough accompanied by high tides along the coast, therefore fishermen have been advised not to venture into the open sea. He hinted that Section 144 has been imposed in coastal areas to save precious lives.  

 All arrangements for the temporary residence of the affected people are completed, added Shah.  

While quoting the Pakistan Met Office warning, he said that the cyclone Biparjoy has further intensified into an extremely severe cyclonic storm and is most likely to track further Northward until June 14 morning, then recurve North-eastward and cross between Keti Bander and Indian Gujarat coast on June 15 afternoon.

He said that thunderstorm rain with few heavy falls likely in Karachi, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, and Mirpurkhas districts from June 13, 14, and 16.

Murad Shah said that high-intensity winds may cause damage to lose and vulnerable structures (Kutcha Houses).

All departments have been alerted, and the staff's leave has also been canceled, the CM maintained.

He urged the people not to come out of their homes unnecessarily if the storm hits the coastal belts.

The chief minister said that Thatta, Sujawal, and Badin had more danger.

He said that he was in touch with Corps Commander Karachi, DG Rangers, and GOC Hyderabad to develop close coordination to avoid any untoward incident.
