Dr Fowzia Siddiqui who returned to Pakistan after meeting her incarcerated sister Dr Aafia Siddiqui in the United States, said she could not imagine that Aafia was being kept in such a bad condition, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

After a long wait of 20 years, Dr Fowzia had met her sister Dr Aafia Siddiqui in Fort Worth town of the United States last month where she is currently detained.

Talking to the media on her return to Pakistan, Dr Fowzia said: “I couldn’t imagine that Aafia was in such a bad situation.”

Fowzia Siddiqui said Prime Minister Shehabz Sharif, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and former president Asif Ali Zardari had helped her in meeting Aafia Siddiqui in the United States.

Dr Fowzia also lauded the efforts made by the Islamabad High Court for the meeting and added that the key to Aafia’s release is in Islamabad.

She hoped to meet Aafia Siddiqui again in July or August۔

This sisters encounter was the first in 20 years and took place in the US jail where she is completing her 86-year life sentence – the Federal Medical Center, Carswell, Texas.

The sisters met in a room separated by a glass panel and were not allowed to have any physical contact or exchange any gifts.

In various interviews since the meetings, Dr Fowzia described the extremely emotional encounters with her sister. She said it was very painful to see her, her teeth had been taken, her face had been scalded, she couldn’t hear out of her right ear, and she had a facial palsy from head trauma.

Dr Fowzia was not allowed to hug her or even hold her hand. She went on to say she didn’t have the words to express the moment when she met her sister. She said Aafia’s memories were frozen in time, from when she had last seen her family and children. Dr Fowzia had taken pictures of her children to show her, but she was not allowed to take them into the room.
