In response to rising water levels and potential flooding in all dams within Haripur District, Deputy Commissioner Haripur imposed Section 144 on Tuesday.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, this legal measure prohibits activities such as swimming, bathing, and boating without life jackets in dams, lakes, rivers, and canals across the district.

Additionally, the order restricts the overloading of tourists and passengers in boats beyond their capacity. 

To enforce these regulations, the district administration and police have been directed to ensure strict compliance. Violators of this order will face severe legal consequences.

Tarbela Dam located in Haripur is the largest earth-filled dam in the world. The dam on the Indus River is 143 meters (470 feet) high above the riverbed, and its reservoir, Tarbela Lake, has a surface area of approximately 250 square kilometres (97 sq mi).

There are some other dams in Haripur, including Chaatri Dam, Khal Dam, Mang Dam, and Khanpur Dam. Chaatri Dam impounds on Nain Sukh River built in 1971, has a storage capacity of 100,001-acre ft with 26 metres in height.

Khal Dam built in 1972 on the Khal Kass River, has a storage capacity of 1,140,000 acre-feet and is 23 meters high. Mang Dam impounds on Haro River built in 1970, has a storage capacity of 1,140,000 acre ft with 23 metres height.

Khanpur Dam impounds on Haro River built in 1985, has a storage capacity of 1,140,000 acre ft with 23 metres height.
