Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has taken decisive action to address the growing concern of underage driving, directing law enforcement authorities to crack down on both underage drivers and their guardians throughout the province.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the Chief Minister instructed the IG Punjab, the Chief Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) of Lahore, and all Regional Police Officers (RPOs) to actively pursue and penalize underage drivers operating cars, motorcycles, or rickshaws.
Emphasizing the severity of the issue, Naqvi urged swift and effective measures to curb this dangerous trend.
To ensure accountability, the Chief Minister mandated daily reports from the concerned officials detailing the actions taken against underage drivers and their guardians.
Naqvi stressed the potential risks posed not only to the young drivers themselves but also to other road users.
In a bid to reinforce the crackdown, the directive includes the confiscation of vehicles belonging to underage drivers.
Naqvi appealed for their cooperation, urging them not to permit young children to operate vehicles and motorcycles. He highlighted the life-threatening consequences that could result from even minor mistakes made by inexperienced young drivers.
