Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge users have been urgently warned to update their browsers to fix serious security risks.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has set a 72-hour deadline, urging users to update Chrome by September 18.

The vulnerabilities allow hackers to exploit memory bugs, gain remote access, and steal personal data without the user's knowledge

To update Chrome, users can click on the three dots in the top-right corner, go to Help, then About, and check for the latest version.

If the Update Google Chrome button is not visible, you are already protected.

Chrome’s safety check tool will now automatically run in the background to safeguard against hacking attempts.

If users fail to update by the deadline, CISA recommends discontinuing the use of the browser until security updates are applied.

Google has since assured users that its revamped Safety Check feature will now run automatically in the background on Chrome, taking more proactive steps to keep you safe.

The feature also informs users if it takes any actions to protect them against potential hackers, including removing permissions granted to sites that aren't frequently visited.
