Textile industry icon and former Trade and Industry Minister Gohar Ejaz has urged the government to provide across the board relief to power consumers, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Former Trade and Industry Minister said the main problem behind power sector crisis is the capacity payments which are being paid to IPPS without generating electricity.

Gohar Ejaz said due to capacity payments, all electricity consumers are affected. He said during month of July, the production cost of electricity remained at Rs9.3 per unit but masses and industry received the electricity bills around 60 to 70 rupees per unit.

Gohar Ejaz said the average production of electricity in July is 20,000 megawatt while 35 percent of electricity was generated from hydel sources.

Gohar Ejaz demanded of the government to provide relief to all consumers instead of selective favour. He commended Punjab government for providing Rs 14 per unit relief to electricity consumers.
