In view of the rumours that online transactions have been closed in the country, the National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) on Monday clarified that there was no truth in them, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

It said that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and other partners, after a thorough investigation, had reached the conclusion that no such thing had happened and that the banking system in the country was completely functional.

It further said that the cyber security teams were monitoring the situation, and the purpose of today’s statement was to remove doubts from the minds of people and eliminate the state of uncertainty.

The CERT advised citizens to avoid paying heed to such rumours, and report any suspicious activity to their banks or monetary organizations.

It also advised them not to share their ATM cards’ PIN codes and users’ IDs and passwords with anyone.

Furthermore, the CERT asked people to make sure before inserting their ATM cards that there was no device attached to the machines that could copy their cards.

Apart from that, it also advised people to log out after completing their transactions.

“Please also check your account statement regularly, and in case you find that the amount has been stolen, report it to the concerned forums,” the CERT said.
