The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for potential floods in various regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab, forecasting heavy rains from August 21 to 24, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Wednesday.
The expected downpours could significantly increase water levels in local rivers, including the Kabul River, leading to flood situations in multiple districts.
In KP, districts such as Abbottabad, Parachinar, Charbagh, Charsadda, Chitral, Dir, Haripur, Hazara, Malakand, Mansehra, Mardan, Peshawar, and Swabi are at risk of flooding due to the rising water levels.
Similarly, in Punjab, heavy rain is expected in the Potohar region, Twin Cities (Rawalpindi and Islamabad), Bahawalpur, DG Khan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Jhelum, Lahore, Layyah, Mianwali, Multan, Narowal, Rahim Yar Khan, Sialkot, and Sargodha. Eastern Punjab is also forecasted to experience heavy rainfall.
The NDMA has instructed all concerned agencies to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to minimize the potential impact of floods and landslides in hilly areas. Authorities have been directed to ensure the availability of resources and to prepare for immediate emergency responses.
Travellers and tourists are advised to avoid mountainous areas due to the heightened risk of landslides.
