Sharp increase in drugs’ prices makes patients jittery

An astounding increase in the prices of some life-saving drugs in the country has dropped a bombshell on patients, who just like their compatriots are already battling against inflation, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

The prices of all cough syrups have gone up, while the price of a packet of CEC tablets has now been increased to Rs493.

Similarly, the price of Tegral tablet, used in the treatment of people suffering from seizures, has been increased from Rs355 to Rs467.  

There is an astounding hike in the prices of different types of insulin as well.

The price of Ozempic, which is administered to patients once a week, has gone up from Rs17,000 to Rs25,000.

Likewise, 20 per cent increase has been registered in the price of insulin Humulin 30/70.

Moreover, the price of a stick used to check sugar has gone up by 30 per cent.

A blood bag, which previously cost Rs600, is now available at Rs850.

The prices of surgical instruments have also gone up massively in recent weeks.  

ALBUMIN injection, which previously was available in the market for Rs20,000 is now available for Rs27,000.

Similarly, the new price of HepaMerz syrup is Rs500.

Likewise, there is also a mind-boggling increase in the prices of different prices of instant formula milk for babies.

The health ministry as well as the DRAP have failed to bring down the prices.

On the other hand, several injections and medicines have simply disappeared from medical stores’ shelves.

Anti-tetanus injections and inhalers for the asthma patients are not available in the market for quite sometime now.

Similarly, Clexane, a life-saving injection, has also completely disappeared.  

People suffering from different kinds of eye diseases are also worried these days as eye drops are also in short supply in the market.
