In the heart of Lahore, a testament to international cooperation and progress stands tall - the Orange Line Metro Train project. This monumental endeavor, undertaken as a joint venture between the China Railway Group and Norinco Company of China, is not just a transport network but a symbol of collaboration between two nations. Recently, I had the privilege of interviewing Mr. Yunlin, the Executive Deputy General Manager of the Orange Line Project Department of Lahore Rail Transit, China Railway International Co., Ltd. His insights shed light on the project's journey, its impact on Lahore, and the warmth of the city.

Challenges and Triumphs

During the conversation, Mr. Yunlin shared some of the hurdles faced during the project's construction, particularly the unforeseen challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these obstacles, the Orange Line project now stands as a beacon of hope for the people of Lahore, providing them with a world-class transit system and creating numerous employment opportunities.

Ridership on the Rise.

Mr. Yunlin proudly mentioned that ridership on the Orange Line is increasing day by day. This not only eases traffic congestion but also makes public transportation more accessible and convenient for the citizens of Lahore.

A Helping Hand from China

Highlighting the strong bond between China and Pakistan, Mr. Yunlin emphasized how China is committed to helping the people of Pakistan. He assured that this partnership will continue to grow and benefit both nations.

Lahore's Culinary Delights

Beyond the project, our conversation took a delightful turn towards Mr. Yunlin's experience of Lahore's cuisine. He spoke fondly of Pakistani food, especially Lahori delicacies like "lassi," sweets, and lamb karahi. With a warm smile, he admitted that he couldn't resist the temptation of the delicious food, which resulted in a delightful weight gain during his stay.

Unforgettable Moments

Mr. Yunlin shared two heartwarming stories of his time in Lahore. One was about a generous lady farmer who refused to accept money for vegetables. He said “because I am Chinese and exemplifying the warm hospitality of the people of Pakistan and Lahore.” The second recounted a kind shopkeeper who fixed Mr. Yunlin's broken glasses without charge, emphasizing the special bond between China and Pakistan.

Lahore's Hospitality

Expressing his deep appreciation, Mr. Yunlin commended Lahore for its hospitality. He described Lahore's people as warm and welcoming, highlighting the strong cultural ties between the two nations. This mutual admiration, he believes, is a testament to the "Iron Brother" relationship between China and Pakistan.

A Heartfelt Exchange

The interview concluded with Mr. Yunlin’s question about my first impressions of the Chinese people during my visit. In one word, I expressed that they had "stolen" my heart, mirroring the sentiment that cultural exchange and friendship transcends borders.

In the heart of Lahore, the Orange Line Metro Train project is more than just a transportation network; it's a bridge connecting two nations and a symbol of enduring friendship. Mr. Yunlin's experience highlights how the warmth of Lahore's people and the strength of Sino-Pak relations continue to shine brightly along its tracks.
