Muhammad Abdullah Hamid Gul, the son of former top spymaster Hameed Gul, has made startling revelations on Twitter claiming that the mastermind behind the diplomatic cable cipher turned out to be former ISI chief General (R) Faiz Hameed.

He also claimed in his tweet that that a decision has been taken to proceed with General (R) Faiz Hameed under the Official Secret Act.

He cited the sources who claimed that former prime minister Imran Khan, who is serving his three-year term in the Toshakhana case in Attock jail and has also been arrested by FIA in cipher case, has told FIA investigators that he has no involvement in the cipher conspiracy.

According to Gul, Khan pinned the blame on the then Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and former DG ISI General (R) Faiz Hameed saying the whole conspiracy narrative was their doing.

Gul; also claimed that in the light of Khan’s statement, the scope of investigation was widened and Najaf Hameed, brother of General (R) Faiz Hameed, was also investigated.

He also claimed that FIA, which came under civil jurisdiction, has sought the military's permission to formally arrest the former general in cipher case under the Official Secret Act.
