In a shocking incident in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India, a son allegedly murdered his mother in order to repay debts incurred from online gaming.
According to Indian media reports, the incident took place in Fatehpur, where a young man named Himanshu was an avid enthusiast of online gaming and continued to borrow more money as he kept losing.
Police revealed that Himanshu had accumulated a debt of ₹400,000 (approximately $5,300 USD) from online gaming, causing him distress on how to repay the amount.
To settle the debt, Himanshu stole jewelry belonging to his aunt and used the proceeds to purchase life insurance policies worth ₹5 million (approximately $66,400 USD) for his parents.
Immediately after securing the policies, Himanshu allegedly strangled his mother to death, disposed of her body in a sack, and rode his tractor to dump the body in the River Ganges.
Police further disclosed that Himanshu's father was absent from home at the time of the incident, and upon his return, noticing the absence of his wife and son, sought assistance from neighbors who informed him that his son had left with the tractor towards the River Ganges. Subsequently, the father alerted the police, leading to Himanshu's arrest.
During interrogation, Himanshu confessed to the crime, admitting that he committed the act to repay his online gaming debts.
