Pakistan has seen a troubling increase in polio cases, with the Ministry of National Health confirming a new case in Balochistan’s Pishin district, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Wednesday.

A 30-month-old child has been infected, bringing the total number of polio cases in the country to 22 this year, according to the National Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

Balochistan alone has reported 15 cases so far in 2024, prompting renewed emphasis on vaccination. Ayesha Raza Farooq, the Prime Minister's focal person for polio prevention, stressed the importance of vaccinating children, calling it a religious and national duty.

She also announced that two more nationwide polio campaigns will be held before the year ends to curb the virus's spread and boost children's immunity.
