The Sindh government on Monday banned the sale and purchase of a locally manufactured injection Avastin, allegedly responsible for causing loss of vision in several patients in the province, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
The Sindh Health Department issued instructions to the drug inspectors to act in hospitals, warehouses, pharmacies, and others.
Following the directions, the inspectors conducted raids at hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and other warehouses and recovered more than 400 injections.
The government also asked the department to investigate the said badge and records.
According to reports, diabetic patients in Lahore, Kasur, Sadiqabad and Jhang districts were administered Avastin injections to address retinal damage. However, these injections led to severe infections, ultimately resulting in the loss of eyesight of approximately 12 patients.
The federal government has recalled the injections from the market while a case has been registered against the suppliers.
