President of vivo and GM of Brand and Product Strategy Jia Jingdong has revealed that Y300 Pro will be out next week.
The phone will be introduced in China on September 5, and the executive explained all the new key features including big battery and quad-curved display and why they are important for the company Weibo.
The Y series is the best-selling lineup of vivo phones in China, and Jia explained the company wants to bring flagship features to its more affordable handsets. That's why the new phone will have a Silicone-Carbon battery – the same technology used in the vivo X Fold3 and Fold3 Pro. However, here the capacity will be greater, and the Y300 Pro will have a 6,500 mAh cell - the first mainstream phone to reach such capacity in 2024.
The new battery technology with its higher density enables vivo to still build a thin phone with that capacity - it will only be 7.69 mm thick. On top of that, the company is bringing 80W fast charging and reverse charging, and promises the battery will be able to keep its capacity for five years. The screen is advertised as quad-curved, and this is the first time vivo goes for this design, saying it would create a "fully symmetrical" appearance. On top of that it will have 5,000 nits peak brightness, SGS certification for blue light filtering and anti-flicker.
The Y300 Pro will be dustproof and "all-weather rainproof," which could mean anything from IP53 to IP68, but we don't expect to see an official IP rating, as the company usually doesn't bother certifying its devices for the Chinese market. The camera island on the back resembles the flagship X100 series, following the "360-degree sun design." It will be a dual-camera setup, with the main shooter having a 50 MP sensor. The selfie cam will have a 32 MP imager.
There are seven days until the official launch. We expect vivo to tease more specs about the Y300 Pro in the following days.
