The National Assembly session Friday turned contentious as members of the government and the opposition clashed, hurling sharp criticisms at each other, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Friday.

Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal responded forcefully to the speech by opposition leader Omar Ayub Khan, while the opposition heavily criticized PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi, leading to protests and slogan-chanting.

During the session, opposition leader Omar Ayub Khan addressed several issues, including the issue of utility stores closure, internet speed, and the jail facilities provided to the PTI founder.

He condemned the restrictions on Imran Khan for communication with family members, particularly the refusal to allow conversations with sons.

Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, in a sharp retort, pointed out that he had been detained under the previous government in the same cell now occupied by the PTI leader.

"We were not allowed to meet with legal counsel," he said, adding, "They now have five-star facilities and still complain. Did anyone hear our cries? They are demanding an NRO, but their leader will not receive one. They must prove their innocence in court."

PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi, speaking on the matter, sarcastically commented on the luxurious jail conditions, including the provision of desi chicken, and a 90-meter-long cell. He argued that all prisoners should receive the same facilities as the PTI founder.

This led to objections from opposition members, who protested and raised slogans. The Speaker of the National Assembly deleted certain remarks by Hanif Abbasi from the official record.

The session was adjourned until 5 PM on Monday.
