CM Mohsin Naqvi inaugurates Punjab's first cancer hospital

Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi inaugurated the Mayo Cancer Care Hospital in Manawan on Monday, announcing that every cancer patient in the province will receive free treatment regardless of their stage, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The hospital, which is the first government-level cancer hospital in Punjab, has 110 beds at present and will be expanded to 1000 beds in a few years, according to Naqvi.

The chief minister visited the hospital and reviewed the facilities and procedures for the treatment of cancer patients.

He also took a token from the machine and ordered to simplify the automatic system and to include Urdu writing on the screen along with English.

He observed the system of chemotherapy, visited the blood sample collection room, and instructed to write signboards in Urdu language for the convenience of patients.

Naqvi said that the hospital will provide chemotherapy and surgery for cancer patients and that all administrative and financial affairs of the hospital have been entrusted to the King Edward Medical College University.

He said that cancer treatment is very expensive and beyond the reach of the common man, so it is the responsibility of the government to provide a state-of-the-art hospital for cancer patients at the government level.

He said that the hospital is a need of the people of Punjab and a gift from his government.

Provincial Ministers, Dr. Javed Akram, Dr. Jamal Nasir, Secretaries Specialized Health Care and Medical Education, Construction and Communications, Commissioner Lahore, Special Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education, Vice Chancellor Edward Medical College University, Chief Executive Officer and related officials were also present on the occasion.
