Local Government Department's employees in Peshawar staged a protest against the suspension of Local Bodies powers and funds. The demonstrators entered the Red Zone.

In response, the police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.

Employees of Local Bodies Department from across the province gathered at Jinnah Park, voicing their frustration over the provincial government's failure to provide funds for the past two and a half years.

The protesters said the lack of funds has stalled developmental projects at the grassroots level across the province.

The protesters threatened to lay siege to the Chief Minister's House if their demands were not met.

Amidst the protest, the Nazimeen Action Committee split into two factions, with one group entering negotiations with the Chief Minister while the other group entered the red zone.
