Section 144 imposition: Bill to empower Home Secretary and DCs to be moved in PA tomorrow

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the amendment in the Act for Section 144, which will be presented in the Punjab Assembly (PA).

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the Law Department will present the amendment in the assembly tomorrow.

Under this amendment, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of a district will be empowered to impose Section 144 for up to seven days.

The Home Secretary will have the authority to impose it across the entire province for up to one month.

For imposing Section 144 for more than a month, the power will rest with the Cabinet. This bill will be presented in the Punjab Assembly.
