Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab’s acting President Rana Farooq Saeed labelled 5th July 1977 as the darkest day in the history of Pakistan as Military Dictator Zia-ul-Haq imposed Martial Law overthrowing Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s government, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Rana Farooq Saeed, in a press conference, said that the damage done to the country since 1977 is beyond repair. If Zulfikar’s government was not hurled and the elections were allowed to occur, things would have been a lot better today. He said that Bhutto got a country that was broken and he managed to run that wrecked piece of land. After Quaid-e-Azam, only Bhutto could have put the country on the path to progress and prosperity and after Bhutto, his daughter Benazir could have done that as the People’s Party believes in democracy.
Rana said that everyone is talking about the upcoming elections nowadays and it is also being said that our party is working for Seat adjustments. We do not want adjustments with any party. There is no such discussion going on between Asif Zardari and Nawaz Sharif. We will contest in all the constituencies of the National and The Punjab Assembly. He said that People’s Party does not want any party to be banned and the results of the polls be accepted as they are.
He concluded the presser saying that the Coalition Government will end in August, after that the Election Commission will give a date for the general elections and the polls should be held on that exact date.
People’s Party Lahore President Aziz Ur Rehman Chan and Finance Secretary PPP Punjab Ahmed Jawad Farooq Rana were also present in the Presser.
