The Punjab government rejecting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s allegations regarding rainwater in Lahore has said that the party is accusing the government just for point scoring, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
A spokesman of the provincial government in a press statement on Wednesday said that the fact is that due to the timely measures taken by the caretaker government, the damage caused by the rains is negligible.
He said that the caretaker government cleaned and desilting the canal and drains three times from February to June, anticipating the monsoon rains.
Incessant monsoon rains lashed Lahore on Wednesday, breaking a 30-year record with up to 291 millimeters of precipitation within a span of 10 hours, leaving major streets and low-lying areas submerged in water.
However, within a few hours, rainwater was removed from all the major roads and underpasses of Lahore, the spokesman said.
He said that Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi himself is reviewing the drainage arrangements.
The spokesman said that the provincial ministers have been engaged throughout the day in drainage activities in different areas of the provincial city.
