The federal government has approved the appointment of Lieutenant General Akhtar Nawaz Satti as Chairman of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC), reported 24NewsHD RTV channel.
The appointment, which had been pending for a considerable period was officially approved by the President of Pakistan on the advice of the Prime Minister.
With the appointment of Lt Gen Satti who is presently commanding Multan Corpse, and will be retiring in November, the FPSC is expected to see renewed leadership and direction in its mission to oversee recruitment and public service examinations across the country.
It is noteworthy, besides providing leadership to the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC), the chairman heads the Central Selection Board (CSB) which recommends promotions of senior ranked bureaucrats from BPS-19 to BPS-21.
The former chairman of FPSC was appointed in July 2023, but he resigned after a couple of days as he was inducted in the federal caretaker cabinet.
Since then, the post has been lying vacant.
As such, the day-to-day affairs of the commission are being looked after by one of its members.
The FPSC chairman is appointed by the president on the advice of the prime minister under Article 242(A) of the Constitution.
