Four people die as Lahore lashed by heavy rain for second day

Another four people died and 15 injured as Lahore was lashed by heavy rain for the second consecutive day on Thursday, taking the death toll in two days of rain to 12, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
At least four people lost their lives when the roof of a house collapsed near Bandianwala bridge in Amar Sidhu area of Lahore amid heavy rainfall. The deceased included three children under the age of 10 while another child injured.
In a separate incident, 14 people were injured when a wall of the Government Mozang Teaching Hospital collapsed. Rescue 1122 officials said the wall collapsed onto the hospital’s waiting area injuring 14, who were then shifted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for treatment.
A day after having been pounded by heavy rain, Lahore again received heavy downpour on Thursday that inundated not only low-lying areas but also roads like Upper Mall, which created lot of inconvenience for motorists and pedestrians alike.
The rain made people living in several areas, including Mughalpura, worried as they said they were already faced with deluge due to yesterday’s rain, and today it was raining again.
The situation was no different in Islampura and Krishan Nagar areas where streets were flooded.
Similarly, the administration’s tall claims of efficiency were exposed when heavy rain flooded the Katcha Jail Chand Rai Road.
People’s bikes and cars were left stranded in the water. But nobody from the administration came to rescue them.
Power supply to several localities of the city was disrupted after over 110 feeders got tripped and at several places transformers were burnt.
Humidity level in the air was recorded at 74 per cent while winds were blowing at the speed of 26 kilometers per hour.
11 injured in Mozang wall collapse:
As many as 11 people were buried underneath the rubble when a wall adjacent to the waiting room of Mozang Hospital collapsed due to heavy rain.
Rescue1122 personnel rescued the injured and shifted them to Ganga Ram Hospital.
Several cities in upper, central and southern Punjab also received rain, which not only brought down the temperature, but also added to the miseries of people.
It rained cats and dogs in Manawala due to which low-lying areas were inundated.
However, the administration did not take any step to drain out water.
Likewise, torrential rain in Jhang turned several city areas into pools of water.
Although downpour in Gojra and suburbs rid the people of heat, but it also brought lot of inconvenience for the people as electricity supply was disrupted and several areas were completely submerged.
Water accumulated on roads left motorists and pedestrians stranded and also led to the closure of businesses.
The weather department, on the other hand, predicted that rains would continue until July 8 (Saturday).
Yesterday, 30-year-old record was broken in Lahore when the city received 291 millimeters of rain in just 10 hours.
As many as 10 people died in rain-related incidents in Lahore and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
