Rain-related incidents claimed three lives in Lahore and parts of Punjab, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday
Lightning claimed the lives of a man and his son in the Melsi area of Punjab. The incident left another son of the deceased injured.
Munawar Shah, was working with his 14-year-old son Hasan Ali and 6-year-old Gulab Ali when lightning struck them.
The rescuers rushed to the spot and took the bodies and the injured to a local hospital. The tragedy triggered panic among the locals.
Thunderstorms with strong winds lashed Lahore and its suburbs.
A man was electrocuted in the Shadbagh area of the provincial capital while his other family members sustained serious injuries in the incident.
The deceased was identified as 30-year-old Kashif, rescuers said, adding that the injured include Kashif’s wife Kiran, 25-year-old Misbah, and two children.
The injured were rushed to Kot Khwaja Saeeed Hospital where Kiran is stated to be in critical condition.
Trees were uprooted on Cooper Road in Lahore, hampering the flow of traffic. At Hall Road Chowk, a tree fell on five vehicles.
Rain submerged the Alhamra Art Centre, leaving the visiting students in hot water. Roof leaks in two drama halls created panic, while rain also exposed the improper drainage system of the centre. However, the staff rushed to drain out rainwater to avert any untoward incident.
According to the Meteorology Department, Lahore and parts of Punjab are likely to receive strong winds and thunder at few places.
It added rain with strong winds and thunder is expected at a few places in Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Leh, Bhakkar, Multan, Rajanpur, Sahiwal, Kasur, Okara, Rahim Yar Khan and Murree.
Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas are likely to experience gusty winds and thundershowers, the Meteorological Department said.
It said the weather in Islamabad, Sindh and most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan will remain hot and dry.
The thunderstorm is likely at a few places in Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra and Balakot, the forecast said, adding that in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, there is a possibility of rain with strong winds and thundershowers at a few places.
