Accidents claim 503 lives on highways, motorways last year

As many as 503 people were killed and 270 injured in about 387 accidents on highways and motorways during the last year, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

The National Highways Authority (NHA) and Motorways police have released a detailed report about accidents that occurred on major roads countrywide.

According to the NHA’s documents, there were no casualties reported in 128 accidents on highways and motorways.

The document revealed that 23 accidents occurred on highways and motorways in July, 39 in August, 26 in September, 32 accidents in October, 39 in November and 34 in December 2022.

According to documents in January this year, 27 accidents occurred on highways and motorways, 34 in February, 26 in March, 32 in April, 26 in May, 35 in June and 14 in July 2023.

A spokesperson for the National Highways and Motorways Police said that speeding and indifference to the traffic rules was the major cause of accidents.

He added that vehicles emitting smoke and in poor condition were impounded by the National Highways and Motorways Police.
