Weather alert sounded: Heavy rainfall expected to cause flooding in low-lying regions

The Meteorological Department Friday issued a weather update indicating a continuation of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds in several parts of Pakistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The current weather conditions, which are anticipated to persist, pose potential risks of flooding, landslides, and other weather-related hazards.

Tonight, regions such as Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Potohar Region, Northeast South Punjab, Northeast Balochistan, and Sindh are expected to experience more rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, as stated by the Meteorological Department. Local authorities have been alerted and precautionary measures are being taken to address the potential impacts of these weather conditions.

In specific areas, such as low-lying regions of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sahiwal, Toba Tek Singh, Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Okara, Kohat, Peshawar, Bannu, Karak, DI Khan, and hilly areas including Murree, Guliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Kohlu, Sibi, Barkhan, Zhob, Loralai, Qila Saifullah, Mosikhel, and nearby streams, there is a higher risk of flooding and landslides due to the heavy monsoon rains, as warned by the Meteorological Department.

Looking ahead to Saturday, the weather forecast indicates further rain and thunderstorms. Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Malakand, Balakot, Charsadda, Mardan, Kohat, Kurram, Bannu, Waziristan, DI Khan), Punjab (Murree, Galiat, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Sargodha, Mianwali, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Bahawalnagar, Narowal, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Lahore, Bhakkar, Leh, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, Taunsa, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan), Balochistan, and Sindh (Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Tharparkar, Mithi, Padaidan, Umarkot, Sanghar, Mirpur Khas, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Ghotki, Thatta, Karachi, Dadu) are expected to receive heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hailstorms.
