Jason Gillespie, the newly appointed head coach of Pakistan’s red-ball cricket team, has expressed his commitment to fulfilling his new responsibility and working to enhance the performance of the national team, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi on Sunday, he acknowledged the talent within the Pakistani squad and emphasized that his primary focus would be to bring out the best in the players.

Gillespie highlighted his immediate objective of working closely with the test team, beginning with an assessment of their strengths and areas for improvement.

He has already initiated conversations with key players, including test captain Shan Masood, to understand their perspectives and plan effectively for upcoming challenges.

He said that he would start his work from Shaheen Shah Afridi, bringing more improvement to him.

He stressed the importance of players maintaining a high level of fitness to compete effectively at the international level.

"If you're playing international cricket, you need to be fit and prepared," Gillespie remarked, emphasizing that fitness is a fundamental responsibility of every player.

Talking about Pakistan's recent performances, Gillespie observed that while the team has shown potential, consistency remains a critical area for development.

He praised the team's efforts in various sessions, particularly highlighting some commendable performances during their tour of Australia.

However, he acknowledged that Pakistan's home defeats in the last season underscored the need for a more consistent and positive approach.

Gillespie said that he had gathered insights from previous Australian coaches who worked with the Pakistan team, including Shaun Tait and others. Their feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, providing him with a solid foundation to build upon, he added.

“The World Test Championship is a significant target for our team.”

Gillespie said that playing more test cricket will be beneficial for the team.
