The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has demanded President Arif Alvi announce the date of general elections without delay

According to 24NewsHD TV channel, the PTI made the demand during a meeting of its core committee.

The meeting came up with a resolution to reiterate the demand for an immediate election, stressing that as per the Constitution, the people are empowered to exercise their right to vote, so the election must be held at the earliest.

Pakistan is passing through the most critical time of its history, it said, adding that the country is facing very complex problems and crises.

It continued: “The undemocratic and unconstitutional move of the regime change in April 2022 led to chaos in the state structure and governance.

“The regime change conspiracy has created unimaginable anxiety and panic in the lives of the people. With each passing day, this situation is worsening.

“Assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were dissolved on January 14 and 18 respectively. The PDM government refrained from holding elections within 90 days in violation of Article (2) 224 of the Constitution.

“Defying the Supreme Court’s April 4 verdict has opened the door to violation of the constitution on the one hand and on the other hand landed the nation in trouble.

“The establishment of a democratic government is a constitutional requirement and the need of the hour.

“As per Article (5) 48 of the Constitution, the President is mandated to fix a date within 90 days for holding elections in case of premature dissolution of the National Assembly.

“Therefore, the President should fulfil his constitutional duty and announce the date of general elections in the country without delay ensuring the supremacy of the constitution.

“The  supremacy of the Constitution is a key requirement of the office of the President,

“If the President of the country does not announce the date of the elections, he will be responsible for violating the constitution and violating the basic constitutional and democratic rights of the people.”
