The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran has announced a special visa policy for Pakistani pilgrims travelling during Muharram and Safar, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Tuesday.

The changes are aimed at facilitating the movement of religious travellers to Iran and Iraq during this significant period.

From 1st Muharram (July 8, 2024) to 15th Safar (August 20, 2024), Pakistani pilgrims holding valid Iraqi visas can apply for double-entry visas. These visas will be valid for 45 days from the date of issuance, allowing a stay of 15 days for each entry, according to a spokesperson from the Iranian Embassy.

Regarding the Special Arbaeen Visas, the spokesperson stated that once the Iraqi government begins issuing "Special Arbaeen visas" to Pakistani pilgrims, those with valid Iraqi Arbaeen visas will be granted free double-entry pilgrimage visas by Iran.

From August 25, the issuance of visas for Pakistani nationals will revert to the regular process.

Pakistani pilgrims travelling by land are required to use their own buses to enter Iran and Iraq. Group leaders must provide details of their transport, including Carnet De Passages, international driver's licenses, and a complete list of passengers. The vehicle plate numbers will be mentioned on the visas, and border crossings will be monitored by matching the list of pilgrims with the license plate numbers.

The Iranian Embassy stressed that group leaders must manage the flow of Pakistani pilgrims and ensure compliance with Iran’s regulations. Pakistani pilgrims must enter Iraq through the Chazabeh (Al-Shab-Al-Sheib) border by 20th Safar (August 24, 2024). Entry from other borders is prohibited.

These measures are designed to ensure an orderly journey for Pakistani pilgrims during this significant religious period.
