Authorities have imposed Section 144 in the Punjab and Balochistan provinces, and federal capital as violent protests erupted in the country against PTI Chairman Imran Khan's arrest.
According to the 12NewsHD TV channel, both provinces and the capital administration of Islamabad not only imposed Section 144 but also called rangers officials to assist the police to contain the situation.
The mobile and internet services in the region have also been disrupted.
The decision to impose Section 144 was made after agitated protesters stormed government buildings and blocked roads, causing traffic disruptions.
As supporters of Imran Khan run riot in parts of the country, reports claimed that crucial decisions have been made in the Provincial Intelligence Committee meeting chaired by Additional Chief Secretary Home Department.
Similarly, section 144 has also been imposed in Islamabad which empowers the district administration to issue orders in the public interest that may place a restriction on an activity for a specific period of time.
Law enforcers have also warned of action in case of the violation of Section 144.
Following the riots, security has been beefed up outside the Rawalpindi office of the National Accountability Bureau. Cops also blocked all arteries leading to the office while a huge contingent of Anti-Riot Force, FC contingents, and additional police force was deployed.
Amid reports of vandalism by the PTI workers during protests, caretaker CM Mohsin Naqvi said those “involved in this attack on the state of Pakistan” will not be spared.
“This is not Politics, it’s sheer terrorism,” he said.
