Punjab govt imposes Section 144 after Imran Khan s arrest

Rangers called to avoid any potential disturbances

The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 and summoned the Rangers in the wake of protests being staged across the province following the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel’s report, the government also wrote a letter to the communication ministry to stop mobile services in the major cities of the provinces to maintain peace and avoid any potential disturbances. 

Additional Chief Secretary Home Mian Shakeel Ahmed said that the government would ensure the safety of people's lives and property at all costs.

The decision to impose Section 144 was taken after agitated protesters stormed government buildings and blocked roads for traffic following Imran Khan’s arrest, he said, adding that the main objective is to maintain peace in the province.
