In a loathsome age old tradition still prevalent in Sindh, the lives of a man and a woman were taken in the name of Karokari in RustamTown in Shikarpur, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to police, a married woman and a man identified as Pirol Khatoon and Dilsher Badani, respectively were accused of involving in illicit relations.
The husband of the woman killed his wife and his presumed ‘lover’ over karokari charges.
After killing them, the accused fled the scene.
Police shifted the dead bodies to Khanpur Hospital.
Last week, a teenage girl and a youth were killed over Karokari in Jamshoro.
Accused Wali Muhammad Rind and Munir Rind stabbed to death Namani Rind, 18, and Mir Khan Rind, 25, over suspicion of illicit relations in village Botra Rind of Sehwan in district Jamshoro.
The term karokari is commonly used as a synonym to honour killing. Originally, karo and kari were metaphoric terms for adulterer and adulteress, but it has come to be used with regards to multiple forms of perceived immoral behavior.
Honour killings of women, including young girls, continue unabated across Sindh province, mainly due to non-implementation of the law, weak prosecution and an unabated influence of tribal and feudal norms.
The districts of Kashmore, Ghotki, Shikarpur, Khairpur and Larkana are the worst affected, where women are being murdered by their own relatives in the name of honour.
Though the Sindh High Court ordered a ban on the Jirga system in in is historic judgement in 2004, but still jirgas continue to awarding Karokari deaths and protecting the killers.
