Amar Khan has raised a concern over Netflix’s lack of Pakistani original content, even as the streaming giant reportedly holds the largest library of titles for Pakistan in all of South Asia.
Taking to Instagram after a report revealed that Pakistan has surpassed India in the size of its Netflix library, the actor-writer highlighted the glaring absence of Pakistani originals on the platform.
“There’s still not a single Pakistani Netflix original,” she opined.
The writer explained how Urdu content is often lumped together under Hindi, saying Pakistan is grouped under India in content categorisation.
She stressed the need for equal representation of Pakistani narratives, arguing that it’s time Netflix created space for distinct Pakistani originals, instead of subsuming the country’s content identity under a broader South Asian label.
Urdu deserves its category. Pakistani stories deserve their own place,” she said.
She called for the platform to recognize the diversity within the region.
