A 17-year-old aspiring Indian woman cricketer has allegedly died by suicide in Nagpur, Maharashtra, after reportedly failing to secure selection in a regional cricket team, 24NewsHD TV reported on Saturday.

According to Indian media reports, Aditi Morishwar Choukande had been striving to earn a place in the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) team.

Despite undergoing rigorous training for the past two years, she was unable to make the squad, reportedly leaving her under severe mental stress.

Originally from Akola in Maharashtra, Aditi had moved to Nagpur with her mother to pursue a cricket career.

The pair had been living in the city's Laxmi Nagar area, while Aditi trained at the Serve Cricket Academy in hopes of advancing her career.

Police said a handwritten note was recovered during the preliminary investigation, in which the teenager reportedly expressed her emotional distress and mental anguish.

Her body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.

Authorities said the exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report is completed and further investigations are concluded.
